Slovak Centre for Communication and Development

Since autumn 2015 I've been cooperating with SCCD on several projects as external project expert. The Slovak NGO is project-based and much of the work and content are funded from European Commission as well as Slovak Aid. Click on the images left and right to find out more about SCCD and the particular campaigns and projects.

Part of the European Year for Development 2015, I have collaborated on the campaign Fit For Fair for labour rights and sustainable garment industry, having developed e-learning course "Decent work is a human right". You can read more about the Fit For Fair campaign in the Slovak language newsletters , that I have created: Newsletter I/2-15, Newsletter II/2015

Ever since and most recently I've focused on the global learning project in cooperation with Slovak Scouting Association leading workshops about Sustainable Development Goals 2015 - 2030, sustainable production and consumption, decent work and human rights as well as conflict minerals and Stop Mad Mining campaign. Most recently I have authored a global learning chapter in ScoutsHandbook.

Associate at ASIA CENTRE

As a media professional and a person active in academia I had been invited to join the Associates of Asia Centre - a civil society hub in Bangkok.

AC is an educational enterprise, offering public space for discussion, exchange of expertise and analysis on core issues across Asia as well as accredited educational programs, exchange with universities and internship opportunities.

Namely I have organized a seminar to bolster discussion about Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) among indigenous tribes of Africa, in Asia, Thailand and globally - "Entering Femininity: Reporting Rituals and Violations" in April, 2016.

Online alternative and fair journalism project
Hummingbird Media: Where people and planet matter

In September 2015 I and my Danish multimedia designer partner Irene Kubel Madsen have launched our own project of online journalism and multimedia company.

Hummingbird Media is an ambitious project of alternative and fair media production and storytelling, where we strive to give balanced focus on Global South and Global North while reporting in a fair manner, providing space for marginalized communities and topics. We give voice, where it needs to be heard. People, environment, development and sustainable lifestyle are the main patterns we follow in the creative process.

HBM is a small project with big ideas and plans,  aspiring to gradually develop audience of active and critically minded netizens, producing quality and ethical content from freelance journalists and authors around the world.

RESEARCH PROJECT:
DEMOCRATIZATION IN ODA OF EU AND JAPAN IN CAMBODIA

Research assistant to prof. Siriporn Wajjwalku

During one year period from 2014 to 2015, I have conducted first theoretical research into traits of democratization elements in ODA programs of EU,  Japan and ADB in Cambodia and Myanmar; eventually I have taken on field research in Cambodia to evaluate, whether selected ODA projects of EU and Japan in the country supported democratization elements such as - women empowerment, community organizations and participation of communities in decision-making.

Common Lives Film Festival

'Where art meets academia', this could well be the right description of the film festival event me and Elaine Haller organized as a side event of ICIRD 2013 in Bangkok, Thailand. We picked up from last year's event Thammasat Human Rights Film Festival, which we coorganized and decided to continue with this format of film screenings and public-academia discussions about different issues.

Supported by the ICIRD conference, Chulalongkorn university and main sponsor - Heinrich Boell Stiftung (the German Green Party foundation), the one day event screened films and documentaries from Myanmar/Burma, Singapore, India and the highlight was a Cambodian piece 'A River Changes Course'. We were honorued to welcome as guest for discussion the executive producer of this award-winning documentary, Mr. Youk Chhang. He's a director of Cambodian Documentation Center, a major civil society leader, Khmer Rouge regime survival and contributor to societal change and reconciliation in Cambodia.

The films, discussion and message of Common Lives Film Festival were focused on 'commons'. The way we share them and the way we don't and maybe should. As opposed to exploitation.

Thammasat Human Rights Film Festival

This one day festival event was a brilliant idea of Dr. James Gomez, who was a lecturer of Human Rights course at Faculty of  Political Science at Thammasat University, Bangkok. A class project, meant to not only focus students on human rights issues and select films, but organize the whole public event. It was sponsore by the university and Heinrich Boell Foundation.

We have prepared various films and documentaries about different human rigths issues, including women's trafficking and reproductive health, HIV and AIDS, LGBT rights and transgender issues, political freedoms, etc... The variety of films we screened were from/about Thailand, Asia-Pacific in general, Bangladesh and mainly Myanmar/Burma. The subtitle of the THRFF was 'Myanmar and beyond'.

Run in two sessions, divided by lunch and coffee  break, each screening was followed by discussion with leading civil society leaders, members of minorities, academics and film makers. To name a few: Lay Thida, author of film 'Bungkus'; Kath Khangpiboon from Thai Transgender Alliance, Alexander Horstmann from Mahidol university focusing on Burmese border communities, etc...

Research on MENA funds by Thammasat University

As an assistant to research conducted by prof. Virot Ali at Faculty of Political Science, Thammasat University, I focused on Middle East and North Africa Strategic Funds (MENA). Particularly, I collected information about their investments in countries of Indian Ocean; mainly Thailand and Southeast Asia

This was a very enriching experience, as it was my first research-related freelance job for academia. Moreover, this research field gave me a key insight into the strategic funds, which are nowadays ones of the financially strongest and most actively investing in the MENA region.
