MRG International journalist trip on minority and indigenous rights

In Maasai indigenous culture, men are superior to women.

Maasai women get married early. Anywhere from 13 - 15 years old. However, with more education and empowerment, many families send their daughters to study and the girls marry older.

In the most remote Maasai communities, only a handful of girls and young women avoid FGM. Jane is one of them. Despite popular belief, she married and plans to have children, even without FGM.

In Maasai indigenous culture, men are superior to women.

![]() Panthy is a little girl, around 12 years old, selling refreshments at Norodom Sihanouk Boulevard's park. Young, smart and charismatic, she spoke little English, but was ever more social. We exchanged a little chat and a short lesson of English and Khmer. Pointing at different things around, Panthy expanded her own vocabulary and taught me some essential Khmer. This is one of the special things about Phnom Penh for me. I always get to meet memorable people.. Phnom Penh, March 2014 | ![]() ...either in terms of work or personally, it is essential to stay in touch with people, especially living and/or working in a foreign country. Phnom Penh, March 2014 |
![]() Phnom Penh, March 2014 | ![]() I asked Panthy, if she'd like to have the pictures and she agreed, so I hope to keep the promise of finding her again and give her a few photos to keep. As explained previously, I find this a good way to connect to working/street children. Not giving them money, but rather a moment and a small present of little material value, but a memory. Because all of us more or less want to leave a positive trace in the life of a working child. Phnom Penh, March 2014 |

Series of photos taken on travels through Cambodia over the years in Southeast Asia.
These depict life, people and environment in Siem Reap, Battambang, Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville and Svay Rieng province.
Burma
I visited Myanmar twice and each time it was a short election trip, during which I intensely looked for stories on latest democratic, or not, development. Getting in touch with the people long opressed and isolated by the military regime was key to covering the stories for Slovak Radio and other media.

Northern trails of Laos and Vietnam
A month trip across the North of Laos and Vietnam.
The mountains, hills, people, food, tribes, nature, traditions and religion in various Laotian colors were one of the most amazing experiences in Southeast Asia
Vietnam has been an almost surreal experience of the same landscapes, village life and poverty as in Laos, but with Hanoi's vibrant culture, touristy seaside life and deep communism.
